Hi Ian,
I’m very interested in how your first week in
the MTC has gone and the people you’ve met. I am not sure what time
you’ll be writing so I’m sending off this first part of my letter quick and a
longer letter is coming later. Let me know what your P-day schedule is
likely to be for the next 7 weeks (at least when in the course of your P-day
you’ll likely be sending off emails).
This has been a long week for work. I
finally got a day off yesterday and proceeded to spend it doing pretty much
nothing. It was Pioneer day yesterday, a commemoration of the day that
the first wagons with Brigham Young entered the Salt Lake Valley and he
declared it was the place he had previously seen in vision. It is a day
that we should celebrate gratitude for the Lord giving us safety and peace and
a place to be happy—the Book of Mormon spends a lot of time focusing on the
Lord blessing places for people to live in peace and prosperity, but the people
have to be righteous for the blessing to work. More on that in the bigger
version of the letter.
I’ll send this off with a quote and a picture.
Quote:
“Do not let your assumptions about a
culture block your ability to perceive the individual, or you will fail.”
